About
Danielle Liberman (b. 1996) lives in Holon and works in Tel Aviv.
“Performance and self-portraiture are powerful tools which allow me to explore the two subjects that interest me separately and as one: genetics and femininity. Genetics, as an idea and as a philosophical principle, enable me to observe the world as a sequence of repetitive actions. Similar to genetic reproduction, which copies itself infinitely, I produce a series of operations which obsessively repeat themselves and I await their expected mutation. Femininity and in particular the female body are political spaces that are charged with personal and collective history. When the female body and genetics collide, they create a genetic sequence which contains both past and current time. For me, the meeting between the two invokes a lack of control. Through the using of performative actions and in front of the camera’s gaze I retake power and repurpose my genetic potential. In using these strategies, I am able to observe myself with a different perspective and examine my female carrier body.”
Since 2023 Liberman runs the digital platform for artist interviews, Let’s Talk Art Now.
